Courage in Spades

Congratulations to the Class of 2021 for their amazing fundraising efforts for this year's chosen Walkathon charity, Cancer Council Tasmania, with $70,610 raised. For 58 years our students have participated in the annual Walkathon, an event often described as a ‘rite of passage’ for the final year at the School. Headmaster, Richard Ford said the School was proud of the students whose...

Over $1500 has been raised as part of an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event organised by Grade 6 students Shaneli, Kathryn and Lydia. Funds raised from the baked goods stall will be provided to Cancer Council Tasmania for cancer research programs.

Grade 6 teacher, Helen Wilson said we are extremely proud of the girls’ innovation and generosity of spirit.

“As we know, cancer touches so many lives in Tasmania, including many families at Launceston Grammar.”

Well done to the girls for their initiative in contacting local bakeries for donations to sell and thank you to the Junior Campus for your support today.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock you will be aware that this year is our demisemiseptcentennial! (yes it’s our 175th birthday!)

We would do well to learn from the lesson of Horton College near Ross – its relic can be seen from the Midland Highway.

Sobering indeed to think that in Tasmania’s early days of colonial settlement the most prestigious boys school now simply sits as a ruin.

Let’s pray that as we celebrate our 175th that we do three things:

  • Look back with thankfulness – thanking God for all those who have contributed to our rich history.
  • Look at the present and reflect what makes us who we are – closely examining our virtues that shape us.
  • Look forwards and consider where we are headed – who we want to be – always looking outwards to serve beyond the safety of the classroom – not taking for granted our position here.

Nisi Dominus Frustra – Pslams 127 – ‘without the Lord’s help we labour in vain.’

Revd Elizabeth Poland

Junior School Chaplain

We respectfully acknowledge, with deep respect, the Palawa/Pakana people as the traditional owners of the land, sea, and waterways of Lutruwita (Tasmania) on which we work, rest and play. We pay our respects to elders past, present, and emerging and recognise their continued care for land, waterways, and community. We also acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
