General Information


Out of the dark of Launceston winter emerges an afternoon of racing, embracing all that is muddy and wet.

The Winter Trail Fest is a collaboration between local clubs and a school to provide a unique race experience. Compete in one or two events to test yourself or compete in all three and become a Trail Champion.



12:30-2:00pm – Orienteering

2:00-3:00pm – Cyclocross

3:00-4:00pm – Trail Run

4:00pm – Prizes

All racing will be in and around the grounds of Launceston Church Grammar School Senior Campus. Our Event Hub is within our beloved “Quad”.


Prices and Registration

Each event will cost $20 for under 21 years old and $30 for over 21 years. Registration for each event can be found under each event heading below. There will be no entries on the day.

The following race age categories will apply across all three events, separately for male and female. Age as of 31/12/2024.

9-12 years

13-14 years

15-16 years

17-18 years

19-20 years

21-39 years

40-54 years

55+ years



Awards will be given to each winner for each age category for each event.

The Trail Champions (those who are best placed in all three events) will receive a prize. Male and female Trail Champions 9-20 years old will receive $300 each, and male and female 21+ years old will receive $500 each!

Our amazing sponsors have provided significant spot prizes! Cycle 2 have sponsored a $500 in store voucher and The Running Company have sponsored three $50 in store vouchers!



Safety Tasmania will be present on the day to take care of all injuries.


Food and Drink

We will have a variety of food and coffee vans around the flagpole, close by to our Event Hub, including Soma Coffee and Food for Dudes.


Results and Photos

Results for all three events will be available on Eventor within a week of the event.

There is ample parking both at the school and on the street. Toilets are in our Event Hub.

This is a sprint/short format orienteering event. There will be three courses – Long (3.5km), Medium (2.5km), and Short/Easy (1.5km). The assembly area will be adjacent to the start on the western side of the main oval. The Launceston Church Grammar School map will be used.

Timing: Start times between 12:30-1:15pm, the course will close at 1:45pm.

Do I need a SI stick or P card? Yes, SportIdent Air is being used and SI Air enabled sticks will be allocated. Not returning your SI Air stick will incur a fee of $150.

The cyclocross course involves laps of the Winter Trail Fest lap. The team has hand crafted the ultimate course showcasing our beautiful grounds. These include a section of our Dirt Art-built, green-flow mountain bike trail. With regular sections to overtake, the variety will keep you wanting more laps. Up, down. Grass, trail. Asphalt, stairs, and ramps. The creative use of school building features and road furniture will get you using your bike in new and unexpected ways.

Event length: 50 minutes for 13 years and older. 30 minutes for ages 9-12.

Equipment: Gravel bike or mountain bike recommended.

Trail Run

Description: A fast, but challenging, mix of country-country style and single-track trail racing. A great opportunity for someone to tackle their first off-road run, or for the experienced trail athlete to demonstrate their ability on the climbs and turns. Whether you are backing up one of the previous events or focusing on this solo event, bring your friends and family as this is a very spectator friendly course!

Distance: 7.2 km (4 laps) for 13 years and older. 3.6 km (2 laps) for ages 9-12.

Terrain: Sealed roads, single track, grass oval, stairs

Equipment: Running shoes (recommended trail running shoes to reduce slipping)
