The Grade 5s took part in a virtual incursion with the Museum of Chinese Australian History in Victoria organised by Mr Young. The students are currently studying a unit of inquiry into the Australian identity and the people that call Australia home.
During the incursion, the students learned about the story of The Yellow Emperor and learned all of the Nine Totems for the dragon. In understanding the dragon, the Grade 5s were told how each element of the dragon came from another animal, the face of a camel, eyes of a rabbit, ears of a cow, antlers of a deer, body of a snake, belly of a frog, scales of a carp, claws of an eagle and the paws of a tiger.
The challenge was then handed across to draw their own dragons, one totem at a time. Once they were all complete, the students happily showed off their designs to the Museum host.
