Purpose, Vision and Values
Our Identity
Launceston Grammar is an Anglican co-educational Early Learning – Grade 12 day and boarding learning community. Our purpose is to nurture, challenge and inspire young people to lead fulfilling lives and positively contribute to their communities.
Our formative offerings promise each student the opportunity to:
- Be well rounded because we focus on character as much as results
- Have experienced learning which provides unparalleled choices and pathways
- Lead their lives with attitudes, ethics and change capability well-suited for the world of today – and of the future.
Our values are grounded in our Anglican ethos:
- Love: Goes beyond feelings, it is the continual choice to care for and uphold the inherent dignity and value of those around us. This kind of love is ultimately demonstrated in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus (1 John 4:7-12).
- Grace: The heart of the Christian message says that God offers us undeserved grace in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8), which results in forgiveness and reconciliation. It is out of God’s grace we encourage personal responsibility for our own actions, constructive resolution of conflict and extending forgiveness to others.
- Humility: Jesus exemplified humility, and in following his example Christians are called to “value others above ourselves” (Philippians 2:1-3), therefore we seek to put the needs of others before our own.
- Costly Service: Is the outworking of our first three values. Just as Jesus “came to serve, not to be served” (Mark 10:45), gave his life for others (1 John 3:16) so too, we choose to use our status, our resources, and our influence for the good of others before ourselves.
- Hope: Stands as a counter to the cynicism and condemnation that seems to pervade our current culture. The Christian message reminds us that we are all works in progress, and we can live and work towards future transformation (Romans 8:18-21).
