Junior Camps
Between Grades 3 and 6, your child will have the opportunity to head on trips of 2-4 days to locations such as Hagley Farm School, Camp Clayton, Port Arthur and Cradle Mountain. Activities might include archery, bush walking, rock wall climbing and zip lining. These short trips are a great introduction to outdoor education, where your child can challenge themselves and cement friendships with their classmates.

Grade 7 Camps
Grade 7 students embark on an introductory trip to Hanleth in the Fingal Valley during the second week of Term 1. The three nights away on the Hanleth Camp with the whole of the Grade 7 cohort will give your child an opportunity to build friendships for the coming year and quickly get to know both their classmates and teachers. Hanleth is a fantastic way to begin the Senior School years.
In October, our Grade 7s embark on one of the most iconic outdoor education experiences at Launceston Grammar - the Maria Island Camp, a tradition that dates back over 60 years. A week on this beautiful island in southern Tasmania is a unique experience that both inspires and challenges, and which is looked back on with pride and fondness by many of our students.

Grade 7

Grade 8 Camp
In Grade 8, your child will venture to the Freycinet National Park in a small group for a week of various activities including rock climbing, bushwalking and bivouacking. The smaller group sizes on this camp give the students a chance to bond more closely as a class and again enjoy the beauty of Tasmania together. This immersive experience aims to cultivate resilience and interdependence in an outdoor setting, challenging students physically, socially, and emotionally.

Grade 8

Grade 9 Camp
The Mount Cameron experience, the longest on the outdoor education calendar, combines previously acquired skills with new ones such kayaking and mountain biking. Students navigate challenges in small groups, including off-track navigation, and raft-building using rudimentary materials, as well as taking part in indigenous education. These challenges develop student’s capacity to make sound evidence-based decisions to develop their leadership and communication skills, to demonstrate resilience when required and to effectively contribute to meeting group objectives. The Grade 9 camp is a great way to round off your child's time at Middle Grammar, before starting the journey of a Grammar Graduate.

Grade 9

Grade 10 Camp
Grade 10 marks the final compulsory outdoor education adventure for your child and allows them to select from a range of expeditions. Whether kayaking, white-water rafting, cycle touring or walking the Overland Track, your child will once again build resilience and an appreciation of our beautiful state while sharing great experiences with their friends.

Grades 11 and 12
At TCE, students can choose Outdoor Education (Level 2) and/or Outdoor Leadership (Level 3).
Outdoor Education is delivered offline, with camps held in the school holidays. It provides hands-on experience in outdoor activities, focusing on planning, safety, and equipment use. Students also complete self-paced theory lessons and maintain a logbook with reflections.
Outdoor Leadership 3 develops teamwork and leadership skills in outdoor settings. Students explore leadership theories, plan activities, and learn to manage groups. With adventurous activities included, the course emphasises problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity, preparing students for pathways that require strong leadership skills.
