Learning Enrichment

Challenge and Support

At Launceston Church Grammar School, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to thrive. Our Learning Enrichment program is designed to support and extend students in their learning journey, ensuring they are both challenged and supported to reach their full potential.

Learning Support

For students who require learning support, we offer a range of targeted interventions and personalised strategies to help them build confidence and achieve success. Our MacqLit program provides structured, evidence-based literacy intervention to support students in developing their reading and comprehension skills. We also develop Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) with input from our qualified learning enrichment staff, along with families and teachers, ensuring that students receive a tailored approach to their education.

In the classroom, our Educational Support Staff work closely with students and small groups, providing additional guidance and assistance to meet individual learning needs. For students in Grades 11 and 12, we provide dedicated support in applying for TASC reasonable adjustments, helping to ensure equitable access to assessments and examinations. Beyond the school day, our Learning Hub is available after school hours, timetabled with expert subject teachers who provide tutoring and academic support across a range of subjects, helping students consolidate their learning in a supportive and structured environment.

Extension and Enrichment

For students ready for extension and enrichment, we offer a range of opportunities to deepen their learning, extend their skills, and challenge their thinking. In the classroom, we provide specialised Mathematics Extended, Science Extended, and Creative Writing classes, allowing students to engage with advanced concepts, develop higher-order thinking skills, and explore their creativity through rich and challenging learning experiences.

Beyond the curriculum, students can participate in academic competitions such as the ICAS Assessments (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools), the Australian Mathematics Competition, and debating tournaments, as well as engage in Future Problem Solving and Inquiry Projects, where they explore real-world challenges through research and creative thinking. We proudly offer students the chance to compete in the Da Vinci Decathlon, a multidisciplinary academic competition covering areas such as engineering, mathematics, code-breaking, and creative writing, as well as the Ethics Olympiad, which encourages structured ethical discussions, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving. Our program also includes specialist workshops and guest speakers, giving students the opportunity to engage with experts from various industries. For those with an interest in STEAM, we provide coding workshops, robotics programs, and science investigation projects.

Students are also encouraged to develop their confidence and communication skills through our Public Speaking Competition, where they have the opportunity to refine their persuasive and expressive abilities in a formal setting.

For students at the TCE level, we also offer the opportunity to participate in the High Achiever Program through the University of Tasmania (UTAS), allowing them to undertake university-level subjects alongside their school studies, gaining valuable experience and extending their academic capabilities.
