Launceston Grammar has been recognised at the 2025 Tennis Tasmania Awards Night, taking out the Most Outstanding School category in a celebration of excellence across the state’s tennis community.

The prestigious annual event acknowledges the achievements and contributions of players, coaches, clubs, officials, schools and volunteers across 12 award categories. Grammar was selected ahead of fellow finalists Illawarra Primary School, Newstead Christian School, Rosetta Primary School and St Thomas More’s Catholic School, highlighting the strength and impact of the School’s tennis program.

Adding to the evening’s success, Tennis Coach Jason Fletcher was also honoured with the Coach Excellence Award in the development category, recognising his outstanding leadership, commitment, and the results achieved through the School’s tennis program.

“This recognition is a reflection of the passion and teamwork within our School community,” said Jason. “We’ve worked hard to build a program that not only develops skills on court, but also encourages confidence, sportsmanship and balance, key elements of our broader approach to wellbeing and education.”

Following this achievement, Launceston Grammar has been nominated as School of the Year at the Australian Tennis Awards, the Newcombe Medal. This national nomination positions the School among Australia’s leading tennis programs.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the comprehensive tennis program we’ve built, and how it integrates with our academic and wellbeing framework,” Jason added. “It’s exciting to see Grammar recognised as a leader in fostering both sporting excellence and personal growth.”

“Just 12 months ago, Jason Fletcher, Craig Slavin and I began exploring how we could make high-performance tennis a reality at Launceston Grammar. In less than a year, we now have a dedicated group of young students being supported to pursue their sporting ambitions - thanks to Jason’s exceptional coaching, Craig’s leadership as Director of Sporting Programs, and the strong academic and wellbeing frameworks that underpin our School. It was wonderful to see this work recognised by Tennis Tasmania at the recent annual awards, and particularly pleasing to see Jason acknowledged with the Coach Excellence – Development award on the same evening.”
