Celebrating the 2025 Wall of Fame Inductee, Mr Matthew Deaner

Launceston Grammar proudly celebrated the induction of Mr Matthew Deaner, CEO of Screen Producers Australia (SPA), into the School’s prestigious Wall of Fame for 2025. The Award honours a member of the Launceston Grammar alumni community who has made a remarkable contribution in the Performing Arts, Media or Screen Industry.

Born and raised in Launceston, Mr Deaner attended Launceston Grammar from Grades 2 – 12 (1979–1990), before studying Law. He began his career as a lawyer in Sydney and London, before moving into senior policy and strategy positions with Screen Australia and the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA).

Since 2012, Mr Deaner has served as Chief Executive Officer of Screen Producers Australia (SPA), the national organisation that represents and advocates for the interests of Australia’s screen production industry. In this role, he oversees advocacy work, industrial negotiations, events and operations, while working with the SPA council to set strategic direction and foster new opportunities for the industry. Under his leadership, SPA has championed the interests of content producers large and small, spanning content, streaming and games. Mr Deaner has been at the forefront of critical industry conversations, including government policy, the rise of streaming services, and the creation of new markets for Australian content both at home and overseas.

Alongside his professional achievements, Mr Deaner is also an Ambassador for Experience Gold Coast, supporting the city’s screen industry and its role as a hub for creative business events.

Mr Deaner was formally presented with the award by Launceston Grammar Dance and Drama captains at a special Wall of Fame Induction event held on Monday 15 September 2025. His plaque was unveiled on the wall, alongside the eight previous inductees.

Mr Deaner now joins a distinguished group of Wall of Fame recipients, including co-founder of Adore Beauty Kate Morris, multi-talented Abbey Hansson, opera singer Di Briffa, and the late Cyril Frederick ‘Bob’ Danvers-Walker.
