Spotlight on Learning – Introducing Michael Nay

Dr Michael Nay is our 2022 Artist in Residence. A highly accomplished artist and educator, Michael completed his PhD in Fine Arts at the University of Tasmania where he has been a sessional lecturer for many years.
Michael’s PhD examination exhibition piece, pictured here, is Black Hand Beaucomp [sic] Bombarde 2020, Oil on canvas. 190cm x 170cm. This project is a painterly response to the representation of the Great War in the Centenary Exhibition of Anzac at the Australian War Memorial (AWM), Canberra. The research has interrogated how painting can be utilised to augment and enrich understanding of the complex relationships between public and private memorialising of the Great War beyond those already existing at the AWM.
Dr Nay is a finalist in the 2022 Glover Art Prize exhibition and his piece will be available for viewing by the General Public Saturday 12 Mar 2022 – Sunday 20 Mar 2022.
