FAQS
How many children can we accommodate?
We aim to accommodate up to 16 boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 16.
How do we select the students to be companions during the camp?
We pride ourselves on our choice of students. Each applicant is interviewed and selected with great care and undergoes a training programme prior to the camp. These students consider the experience a privilege, learning about children with special needs and undertaking a journey of
self discovery .What medical support do we have in place?
We have Registered Nurses on duty during every shift and Doctors on call 24 hours a day. Along with the nurses, the companions are supported in their role by a number of teaching and non-teaching staff and parents from our school.
How much does this cost?
Due to the generous support of the Sony Foundation, our School and the local community this camp is FREE to attendees.
How do I apply?
Families are asked to contact the School at any time, with final applications closing by the 7 May 2018.

Sony Foundation Children's Holiday Camp
In 14 - 16 December 2018, Launceston children with special needs will be given the holiday of a lifetime and some of Australia’s hardest-working parents will enjoy a well-deserved break.
As part of Sony Foundation’s Children’s Holiday Camp Programme, Senior Campus students will give up their holidays to volunteer to become the primary carer of a child with special needs for three days.
The Launceston Grammar Sony Foundation Holiday Camp provides families with a much-needed rest and the teenage carers and their companions with an experience they will never forget.
This is the 14th year that Launceston Grammar has been involved in the programme and they are the only school in Tasmanian that offers this programme. The children are treated to many exciting activities and receive the compassionate care of the inspiring young adults who are able to make a difference
2018 marks the 20th year that Sony Foundation has been involved in the Children’s Holiday Camp Programme. In those years, thousands of children with special needs and thousands of student carers have participated in the programme, with benefits for all.
For further information about the camp please download the brochure (below) or contact Mrs Elizabeth Poland on 6336 6000.
