Early Learning Centre

Early Learning is a partnership between your family and our School. Highly qualified and experienced teachers guide the development of students within our specialised International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP).

Securing a place for your child at our Early Learning Centre provides a guaranteed pathway to our Junior Campus.

Global Learning With IB PYP

Launceston Grammar has gained accreditation of the globally recognised International Baccalaureate (IB) World School with the implementation of the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Taught in schools across the globe, the IB PYP provides benchmarks for what students should learn through the curriculum, guidelines for teaching methodology and clearly stated assessment practices. The programme also underpins high standards of literacy and numeracy – essential for our global learners and leaders of tomorrow.

In our school we address the Australian Curriculum, but we also transcend it and help our students to achieve rich conceptual learning about issues that connect humanity across the world.

A Lifelong Learning Journey

The journey as a lifelong learner at Launceston Grammar begins the moment you enter your first classroom.

At our Junior Campus you will find well-appointed facilities including a purpose-built Inquiry Centre, Resource Centre, indoor Gymnasium, Music Centre and Library which cater for the needs of staff and students from Early Learning to Grade 6. The campus features well-resourced teaching spaces and much-loved outdoor play zones which combine to create a stunning adventure playground for students to be immersed within.

Nurturing Curiosity

At three years of age our children begin their introduction to school life in Early Learning with a wonderful sense of curiosity. They look with joy at their surrounding world exploring, discovering and continuously asking questions.

Our focus is on an inquiry-based approach, with explicit teaching, authentic learning and critical thinking. With continued emphasis on the vital elements of literacy and numeracy skills, we provide countless opportunities for students to develop strong foundations on which to build their knowledge and understanding as they progress from one grade to the next.

From the Primary Years Programme Coordinator

We are part of a highly active global community of PYP schools and teachers. At the click of a button we have the ability to connect with knowledgeable educators and eager PYP learners from over 150 countries around the world – we truly know what is happening in education outside of Tasmania and Australia and draw on the best of what we see and read as often as we can.

The PYP encourages students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. The PYP is an exemplary approach to education in the primary years.
