Boarding

BoardersAs the largest boarding house in Tasmania, we have accommodation for up to 100 boarding students.

Grammar's tradition of boarding goes back to 1846. Since then the quality of life and the style of management within our Boarding House has changed significantly.

Our school provides boarding places for students from Grades 5 to 12. There are separate buildings for boys and girls, with common facilities for recreation and dining. Grammar offers families a school where brothers and sisters can live and learn together as boarders.

A safe and caring environment

The Head of Boarding, the Boys' and Girls' House Co-ordinators, four health care staff and ten tutors ensure the boarders feel safe and happy in the Boarding Houses.

A consultative approach

We are proud of our home-away-from-home philosophy. All rules, particularly in relation to leave, have been made in consultation with parents and are in line with the expectations of a normal family home.

We encourage close contact with families. Boarders can spend time at home at weekends - almost every weekend - if they wish. Provided there is the demand, we can operate a bus on a Monday morning as an extra service to boarding families. For those who choose to stay in during weekends, meaningful and enjoyable activities are arranged to complement students' recreational interests.

Putting our boarders first

Our healthy boarding numbers ensure that younger boarders will share dormitories with friends of the same age. The senior boarders have their own rooms. Our location on the senior school campus gives our boarders access to all the important facilities - computer rooms, library, music school, dining room, their own study areas, the gymnasium and other sporting venues - within and outside normal school hours.

Food for thought

The Boarding House kitchen's food provides our boarders with a wide choice of food and also caters for numerous functions in the wider school community.Boarding Allowances
