Sony Foundation Children's Holiday Camp

Launceston Grammar Sony Foundation Children's Holiday Camp - 17 - 19 December 2010

At Launceston Church Grammar School we take great pleasure in holding an annual three day residential holiday camp for children with special needs.

We aim

To provide a fun camp for these children at no cost to parents
To provide children opportunities they might not otherwise experience
To offer respite care to families
To offer our senior students an opportunity to serve others

An outline of the camp

An exciting activities programme has been designed which includes:
Music / Dancing / Disco
Art / Craft Work
Picnic Lunch / Barbecue
Horse Riding / Mini Golf
Swimming / Soccer / Tae Kwon Do
Sailing the Tamar River on the Odyssey
Christmas service and dinner
A visit from Father Christmas

The children

We hope to accommodate 14 boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 16 who have intellectual and/or physical disabilities

The companions

We pride ourselves on our choice of companions. Each applicant is interviewed and selected with great care.

These students consider the experience a privilege and learn much both about children with disabilities, and themselves.

The medical support

We have Registered Nurses on duty during every shift and Doctors on call 24 hours a day.
Along with the nurses, the companions are supported in their role by a number of teaching and non-teaching staff and parents from our school.

Parent feedback

“A special thank you to the staff, students and volunteers of Launceston Church Grammar School who were involved in the Grammar Christmas Camp.

Our son had a wonderful time and is still talking about his companion.

I hope you are able to pass on our thanks to the Sony Foundation.

Once again, thank you all so very much.”

Our sponsors

The success of our camp is thanks to the many generous people who contribute in a multitude of ways.
We are particularly grateful to our major sponsor, the Sony Foundation, who contributes financial assistance.

The Sony Foundation is the charitable arm of the Sony group of companies in Australia whose aim is ‘to contribute to the advancement of the Australian community by assisting its youth and fostering their talents’. In the last 11 years over $12 million has been raised to help young Australians facing homelessness, severe illness, disability and isolation through unique programs such as The Salvation Army’s Street radio.net, Mission Australia’s Sounds of the Streets program, CanTeen’s Offspring program, Youth Off The Streets Get Reel initiative and the Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camps.
