Academic Programme
The six years of secondary education available at Grammar can be shown as three modules, each twoyears in duration.
THE INTRODUCTORY MODULE
GRADES 7 AND 8The first two years at secondary school which aim to provide students with a broad experience of
education. A wide range of subjects offers experience in language, speech and communication,
creativity and the arts, society, science and technology, with a view to making the most informed
choices for future study.
THE CONSOLIDATING MODULE
GRADES 9 AND 10The middle two years of the secondary school in which students may specialise in subjects
according to individual needs, strengths and interests. The course consists of a common core plus
four elective subjects and introduces students to approaches to work and forms of assessment
which will be critical in the final module.
THE TCE MODULE
GRADES 11 AND 12The final two years of secondary education which leads to the award of the Qualification Certificate
and the new Tasmanian Certificate of Education prepares students for further study, work, and
their future. Students at this level can follow general or quite specialised courses. Provision is
made for both academic and vocational pathways.
